Why is there an Innovation Management Maturity Model?
Every organization, to stay alive, must constantly adapt to its environment and create new products and services. Many of these changes are small, some changes and developments are really important, and sometimes even radical. The Innovation Management Maturity Model describes exactly what it takes for an organization to become truly innovative, to make those changes both big and small. It helps organizations get better at creating new and different services, products, and processes and thereby staying relevant. It also helps organizations innovate with sustainability principles. Save time, cost and effort while helping to save the planet. Get smarter and better and continuously improve innovation capability. Using the sustainability guideline, you can innovate while balancing people-planet-profit objectives.
What is the Innovation Management Maturity Model?
This is an international and universal model for assessing organizations’ innovation capability and improving capacity. It is the first of its kind to provide measurable results, as well as being sustainable. The utmost care has been taken to make this maturity model applicable to all organizations, regardless of their nature, purpose and activities.
There is a whole range of further support materials available, for example, a guideline for using the maturity model in smaller organizations, a guideline for sustainability, and a guideline for supply chain innovation. There are more reference materials on process, on innovation venture programs, and many internal tools that help assessors and consultants prepare innovation assessments and provide advice respectively. There is also a basic toolkit available for those about to embark on their quest for innovation capability without much hassle, called Innovation LITE. Four free innovation guides have also been published on our website.
What does this Innovation Management Maturity Model cover? This set describes the requirements and provides a growth path for any organization to become truly innovative. It does so according to three overarching criteria that determine an organization’s innovation capability: planning, execution and implementation capacity. It covers the five main areas or elements: Leadership, Culture, Social, Execution and Governance.
If you want to improve the maturity of innovation, you will find answers to the fundamental questions for each of these elements.
How does an assessment work? The Innovation Management Maturity Model allows you to conduct self-assessments, giving you the option to choose a self-declaration to achieve Level 1. You can aim for higher levels of innovation capability by asking an assessment partner to assess your organization based on the 3 dimensions listed above, which identifies where improvements can be made, to be able to increase your ability to innovate and thus increase overall innovation performance. Attention has been paid to the inclusion of sustainability principles where relevant. Truly improving innovation capability is a movie, not a picture.
Can you improve innovation capability with an Innovation Management Maturity Model?
Certainly. You cannot manage all aspects of innovativeness. It would be rather absurd to claim complete control over, say, creativity or serendipity. But you can certainly facilitate innovation and provide focus and direction; in other words, one can manage the facilitation and direction formation process.
