Regardless of size or type, all organizations have current and will have future requirements and needs for growth, to endure or to remain competitive. They may have to change their business models, improve or develop new products, services and processes and/or adopt new technologies.
These ongoing requirements and needs can only be addressed and achieved through effective and sustained innovation.
The key to effective and sustained innovation in any organization is to first develop a capability to innovate, as a solid base you can build on. The Innovation Lite approach may be your best solution.
What is Innovation Lite?
Innovation Lite allows organizations to quickly establish a basic innovation capability at a low threshold, which is ideal for SME’s. This entry-level approach to structured innovation is built on a solid foundation (TIM Foundation Innovation Maturity Model, which includes the Innovation Management Standard and supporting Guidelines and Reference Publications).
Besides some necessary up front commitment and organizational enhancements an emphasis is placed on the 3 phase innovation cycle, Discovery (Front-End), Development (Middle) and Deployment (Back-End).
The 6 elements of management innovation (Culture, Leadership, Resources, Processes, Monitoring and Measuring and Improvement) are explained at a high level and reviewed as to their relationship to innovation management systems through maturity.
The bottom line is organizations can build their innovation capabilities using the Innovation Lite approach as a starting point and a pre-cursor to a full-fledged Innovation Management System.
Innovation Lite Handbook
The Innovation Lite Handbook provides step by step instructions on how to develop your innovation base (innovation capability). Included are easy to use templates (editable) that take the guess work out of innovation implementation.
The handbook is available (PDF) on the TIM Foundation website and on Amazon Management Books (Kindle format). Hard copies will be available at the end of June 2015.
Innovation Lite Support
Innovation lite training will be offered by TIM Certified Training Partners. The training, based on the handbook will be delivered in a co-op style whereby organizations would support and work with each other after the initial training.
Training sessions will be listed on the TIM Foundation website starting in the fall of 2015.
